Verification

Two checks. Five minutes. Then you know.

Step one

The seal

The box arrives wrapped in a thin foil band with a holographic signature. The band cannot be lifted without leaving a visible tear pattern. Before you open anything, photograph the seal and compare it to the reference below.

If the pattern differs — even slightly — do not power on. Email us with the order identifier and a photo. We ship a replacement, no questions.

Step two

The build hash

Every Cipher ships with a printed build hash — the cryptographic fingerprint of the GrapheneOS release installed on your device. You can confirm the running system matches that hash from any laptop with adb installed.

  1. 1. Enable ADB on the phone

Settings → About phone → tap "Build number" seven times. Then Settings → System → Developer options → USB debugging.

  2. 2. Connect and read the hash

    adb shell getprop ro.build.fingerprint
    adb shell getprop ro.build.version.security_patch
  3. 3. Compare against the receipt

The fingerprint printed on your receipt should match exactly. Whitespace and case included. If it matches, the system running on your device is the one we sealed.

If anything is wrong

A mismatched hash or a broken seal means one thing: do not trust the device. Power it off, put it in the Faraday sleeve, and contact us. We ship a replacement first and investigate second. That is the deal.
